type='text'>Just launched a new website for a client: Equal Pay Is The Law

Just launched a new website for a client: Equal Pay Is The Law. If you're female in the workforce, chances are you have experienced first hand a wage disparity based on your gender. The wage gap persists in all levels of education and across all occupations.

Here's the link:
http://www.equalpayisthelaw.com/

More background:
Last year, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, Pub. L. 111-2, Sec. 3(A), 123 Stat.
5-6 ("Fair Pay Act"), was passed, amending the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Lilly Ledbetter Act provides that the 180 day statute of limitations for filing an equal pay lawsuit regarding pay discrimination resets with each new discriminatory paycheck.

This was and now is an important step in closing pay disparity based on gender – an issue that Congress attempted to address with legislation in 1963. At the time the Equal Pay Act was passed, women were paid just 59 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts.

Despite the EPA, the wage gap persists. In the United States, women are now paid (on average) 77 cents for every dollar paid to men. In Colorado, that earning ratio is only slightly better – 80%. In some of our neighboring states, that rate is not even 70%. And the wage gap is more substantial when race and gender are considered together.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, or "EEOC", is the federal agency responsible for the enforcement of anti-discrimination laws relating to employment. As briefly mentioned above, federal laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of equal pay.
To individually, or as a group of employees or class, prosecute or at least explore your options for a private action against your employer, please contact us.

Strict time limitations for filing with the EEOC and filing suit to recover lost income and other damages apply.

<a The food was really good, and the waitress was prompt and attentive.

However, I thought I should share with you what happened during the end of the meal.

Toward the middle of the meal, my two year old daughter needed to go to the bathroom. With a two year old, it's important to respond quickly to her needs to prevent accidents.

The waitress had already dropped off the check and I had given her my USAA credit card to run.

As we were leaving to run to the bathroom, I told the waitress that we were not yet finished, and to please not clear off the table.

Four minutes later, we returned, and the remainder of my daughter's lunch had been cleared away. The check was left on the table, but the card was missing.

There was a party of four people sitting across from our table; they said that the only person who came by the table was the busboy.

While it's possible that someone else saw the empty table and the card and took it, it was still frustrating.

The waitress asked if she could cook another pizza for the girls, and I declined. The girls were no longer hungry.

The most worrisome part, though, was that my card was stolen from the table.

The manager took my phone # and offered to call if it was found.

I have since canceled the credit card with my card company. However, many of my bills are on auto-pay with that card, so now I need to spend several hours going through and updating everything else with each company.

I would have thought that the manager would have at least comp'd the meal (it was only $18 total), but didn't offer.
Thanks, Jeff

I'm quoted in an article about the Pros and Cons of Online Visitor Registration

I'm quoted in an article on Open Forum (American Express) about the Pros and Cons of Online Visitor Registration:
http://www.openforum.com/idea-hub/topics/technology/article/pros-and-cons-of-online-visitor-registration-julie-rains

Home Depot Overtime Lawsuit - Resource

If you haven't heard, there is a lawsuit by assistant managers of Home Depot that weren't paid overtime.

According to this new website, www.HomeDepotOvertime.com, if you are a current or former Home Depot Assistant Manager you may be entitled to back wages and additional compensation.

The site continues: "Home Depot Assistant Managers are required to work at least 55 hours a week without overtime pay.
