Raise Smoke Free Kids

Monday, August 18, 2008

So, I am the kind of person who will visit a website when they see it on the back of a bus... I justify it as research. But this is a great site. It uses videos and animation to tell a story, and has a nice layout. From an SEO standpoint, the site doesn't really do very well, so few people will find it using a natural search.

57,000 emails in an inbox

Sunday, August 17, 2008

One of our client's servers and sites has been running a bit slowly... and after a lot of research, changes to the site and server configuration, I found out why:

One person's email inbox had accumulated over 57,000 emails in their inbox. Each time a new message was added, the server had to open up the entire mailbox, which took up a huge amount of memory and processor power.

So, if your server is running slow, take a look at the mail box sizes for all of the users (including forgotten admin ones). Cleaning them out might be the best way to speed up a slower server.

Humble in Boulder with Anonymous Gold Medal Athletes

So, last night I'm watching the women's marathon, and the leader of the pack and subsequent Gold Medal winner, Tomescu Constantina looked familiar.

Oh, it's just a coincidence... she just looks familiar. Then the announcer said that while she is running for Romania, she trains in Boulder, Colorado. I called my wife in from the other room (she's a former ultra-marathon runner), and said, does she look familiar?

After chatting for a quick moment, we realized that she works out at our gym. Yes, she seemed to be in pretty good shape on the treadmill, but it's crazy how low of a profile she had and that most of the folks had no idea she was going to the Olympics...

So, the next time I look at someone in the gym and think, "Wow, they're really in good shape," they might actually be in such good shape they could actually be top in the world.

Crazy how small a world it is, and how humble so many people are.
